Impulse

I’ve been rather sloppy, recently. I wrote some articles, then kept postponing the following ones. As a result, my publishing rate has dwindled. Time management is a crucial issue to many people these days, and I’m no exception. It’s simply way too easy to waste my time on the internet rather than do something meaningful but that requires more effort.
Before we go any further, I would like to recommend a TED Talk a friend of mine posted on Facebook recently: Inside the mind of a master procrastinator, by Tim Urban (check for subtitles, they are probably available in your language if you want them).

In this video, Tim describes situations so familiar to me that I was comforted in my recent thoughts about further developments at Eiwawar. More than the publishing rate, it’s the way I write that annoys me. Basically, I’m like “OK, let’s write something for Saturday”, then on Saturday, after days of postponing, “OK, let’s do this”. Pressed by time, I write an article, spend my afternoon on it, and finish it on time, usually an hour or two before my publishing time, around 22.00. The panic monster has struck.

That doesn’t satisfy me, because I don’t have time to review it properly, to work on my writing like I would like to. As a consequence, I tell about my adventures, but I don’t really take the time to think about them, nor what they mean to me. I describe, but don’t explain. My litterature teachers wouldn’t be proud.

I would like to include more personal thoughts, mostly because I think the read would be more interesting for you, but also because it would be a stimulating exercise for me. Therefore, I will try to write more regularly. Every day, actually. Half an hour seems like a good target, but if it works well, I set no limits. With this, I hope to elevate my writing to higher quality standards. In a few months, you can tell me what you think about it ^^

To celebrate this new approach, I have two surprises: the first one is an update of my manifesto, which I wrote when I started Eiwawar but didn’t really reflect the current situation anymore. The second is the Series page.
Over these past 18 months, some posts have shared the same pattern, in essentially three categories: A Walk in the mountains, Know why the nightingale sings, and Focus. With these pages, I hope to make the old articles more accessible, and I hope you can discover or re-discover some. I plan to maintain this “table of content” better than I maintained the previous Gallery pages, which are no longer reachable.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to interact with me. You don’t have to tell me your whole story, but if what you read echoes in your head, be it because it brings back a memory or because you strongly disagree with my views, I’d be happy to know about it. Let’s talk!

Thank you for following me, and see you soon!

  1. I love Tim Urban’s posts ( my personal favourite – how to prepare for a TED talk) and his stick figure illustration are awesome. So your post definitely resonated with me all the way , right from battling days of writers block , procrastination, to writing in fits of inspiration where time actually stops. Looking forward to checking more of your writing. You are doing a great job.

  2. Funny thing about blogging is how it helps us examine ourselves and our experiences more closely than we otherwise would, eh? I’m glad you’re continuing to grow – it’s what we all should be continually striving for!
